Thomas Doughty (1793 – 1856) was an American painter of the Hudson River School, a movement of landscape artists living in New York whose artistic vision was greatly influenced by romanticism. Thomas Doughty is best known for his landscapes, painted at time where Americans were being more interested in them. Our pattern set for Thomas Doughty contains many examples of his works containing distant mountains, cloudy skies, forests, lakes and rivers, with an occasion building, human figure, and animal included. Jan Steen (c. 1626 – 1679) was a Dutch genre painter of the Dutch Golden Age. His paintings of Dutch family life, celebrations, and outdoor scenes are both lively and humorous. He also painted numerous portraits, religious, and historical scenes. In 1672 when the art market collapsed, Jan opened a tavern. Giovanni Bellini – Italian Renaissance Artist

Giovanni Bellini (c. 1430-1516) was an Italian Renaissance Artist who is considered to revolutionize Venetian painting with his sensuous and colorful style applied with slow drying paints. He is the best known painter from the Bellini family of painters. His early style can be described as Quattrocento, which incorporates classical art forms from Greek and Roman sculptors. His later works matured into a more progressive style and incorporated many instances of religious symbolism through natural elements. Our large set of Bellini patterns contains a wide cross section of his works. There are many versions of Madonna and Child, St. Jerome, Christ, and numerous portraits. There are also patterns of his Four Allegories (Lust, Falsehood, Fortune, and Prudence), two altarpieces (San Giobbe and San Zaccaria) and a self-portrait.

Jan van Eyck – Renaissance Realist

Jan van Eyck (c. 1395 – 1441) was a Flemish painter considered to be one of the best Northern European painters of the 15th century. Because of his effective use of glazes, wet-on-wet, and other techniques, he was known as the father of oil painting. For much of his life he served as a painter and valet de chambre to Duke Philip the Good of Burgundy. Jan van Eyck produced paintings for both private clients as well as for the court. Among his most famous works is the Ghent Altarpiece, a polyptych containing many works included in our pattern set.
